Residents of a village on the outskirts of Cardiff have been evacuated after a flood on Thursday afternoon

Roads have been shut in Gwaelod-y-Garth, with reports of water up to 5ft (1.5m) deep in some homes.

Emergency services are at the scene and people have been advised to avoid the area.

The Breedon Group confirmed there had been an “incident in its quarry” this afternoon.

“Our teams are working closely with the relevant authorities while engaging with the local community as we respond to the situation,” the company said.
