Lucknow: The Bahraich Police and district administration were honoured by governor Anandiben Patel for achieving the highest number of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations in UP, a campaign aimed at protecting adolescent girls from cervical cancer.The honour was conferred at a state-level function in Lucknow on Tuesday, where the governor presented a citation to the Bahraich district and police administration for their contribution to the HPV vaccination programme. The district vaccinated 1,000 girls aged 14-15 years, the highest figure recorded among participating districts in UP.The campaign was run under Bahraich superintendent of police Vishwajeet Srivastava through Vama Sarathi, a police welfare and outreach initiative. While police forces are traditionally associated with law enforcement and public security, the Bahraich initiative highlighted their expanding role in community welfare and preventive healthcare.Officials said the drive was carried out in coordination with the district administration, health department and local stakeholders. Awareness programmes were organised to educate families and adolescent girls about cervical cancer, its risk factors and the role of HPV vaccination in preventing the disease. The campaign also sought to address misconceptions surrounding vaccination and encourage greater participation.Patel commended the district and police administration for demonstrating how coordinated public institutions can contribute to improving women’s health outcomes. She described the effort as an important step towards strengthening preventive healthcare and safeguarding the future of young girls.On behalf of the SP, Payagpur circle officer Harshita Tiwari received the certificate of appreciation from the governor during the ceremony.
