Shivamogga: Primary and secondary education minister and Shivamogga district minister Madhu Bangarappa on Saturday said that the gutka ban was implemented in the state following directions from the central govt.Speaking to reporters after participating in the 80th Independence Day celebrations held at Nehru Stadium here, Madhu clarified that the gutka ban was carried out per central guidelines. On the NEET issue, he asserted that the state cannot completely cede control to the Centre without protecting the state’s interests. He added that a suitable framework is being prepared, and the matter will be raised in the upcoming legislative session.He also reiterated govt’s commitment to establish 1,000 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) across the state, for which detailed project reports are currently being prepared.The minister said that discussions are under way to introduce an AI-driven platform to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, ensuring qualified candidates are effectively matched with available opportunities.While dismissing rumours regarding the handover of Shivamogga Airport to private entities, he clarified that there is no proposal to hand over ownership, only discussions regarding operation and maintenance are taking place. He said Karnataka govt will continue to manage the airport efficiently.
