Gurgaon: MCG has directed the private firm operating the Basai construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing facility to collect, transport and process waste at the existing approved capacity of 300 tonnes per day (TPD). The direction comes after the approval to process 1,200 TPD of waste at the facility expired on Aug 31.MCG officials said the civic body has issued the direction as the urban local bodies (ULB) department is yet to approve processing of 1,200 TPD of waste. The 300 TPD arrangement will remain in place until further orders from the Haryana govt. “The agency shall ensure that the work is carried out efficiently and without interruption and that all applicable conditions, statutory requirements and directions of the Municipal Corporation Gurgaon are strictly complied with,” MCG said in its letter to the firm.MCG joint commissioner for Swachh Bharat Mission Preet Pal Singh said, “The approval for 1,200 TPD from the ULB department is likely to come soon.”The city generates more than 1,500 tonnes of C&D waste daily. With the city already battling an acute municipal solid waste management crisis, the reduction in the plant’s capacity could add to the dumping of debris on roadsides, vacant plots and other unauthorised locations.Indo Enviro Integrated Solution Pvt Ltd, which operates the facility, confirmed that it had been asked to collect only 300 TPD from the city. A company representative, Dinesh Kumar, said the plant could process up to 1,600 TPD, but collection would remain restricted to 300 TPD. “We have been directed to collect and transport only 300 TPD of C&D waste. However, we can process up to 1,600 TPD. So, we can process the C&D waste that reaches us directly at the plant,” Kumar said.The development comes days after MCG reduced the doorstep collection rate for small-scale and non-bulk C&D waste producers, including residents, to Rs 50 per tonne and launched a dedicated portal for pickup requests.Earlier, unsegregated C&D waste collection cost Rs 720 per tonne, while the charge for segregated waste was Rs 360 per tonne. Those transporting waste directly to the Basai facility were charged Rs 205 per tonne. Under the revised arrangement, residents and other small-scale waste producers will pay Rs 50 per tonne, while MCG will bear the remaining Rs 155 per tonne.The private firm, however, said the revised Rs 50-per-tonne rate had not been communicated to it in writing. It said it would continue charging the earlier rates until it received a formal notification from MCG.
