Gurgaon: The city received no respite from the sweltering heat and humidity on Saturday as nighttime temperatures touched the 30 degrees Celsius mark. While heatwave conditions will persist across isolated spots in Haryana including Gurgaon, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the city will get light to moderate rainfall from next week. The highest minimum temperature was recorded at NorthCap University, where the mercury settled at 30.3 degrees Celsius, up from 28.8 degrees Celsius a day earlier. Gurgaon AWS registered a sharp rise in the minimum temperature — from 25.8 degrees Celsius, it climbed to 29.6 degrees Celsius. Gurgaon KKV recorded the minimum temperature as 27.7 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than Friday’s 27.2 degrees Celsius.Daytime temperature also remained above 40 degrees and was three notches above the season’s normal for this time of the year. NorthCap University recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius — marginally higher than Friday’s 41.1 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity index was recorded at 54%.Across Haryana, the average maximum temperature increased by 0.4°C and remained 3.7°C above normal. Bhiwani recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 43°C.IMD said the combination of high humidity and unusually warm nights has intensified heat, as elevated nighttime temperatures prevent the atmosphere from cooling after sunset. The persistent humidity has further added to discomfort.According to IMD, isolated light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely across Haryana through July 1, with rainfall expected to become more widespread from July 2. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph is likely from July 1 onwards. This could gradually bring down temperatures and provide relief, although residents will likely face hot and humid conditions until monsoon activity strengthens over the region.
