Gurgaon: MCG has directed its officials to expedite the removal of accumulated waste and ensure regular garbage lifting following disruptions caused by the sanitation workers’ strike in the city.MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya issued the directions during a review meeting on Tuesday, asking officials to focus on garbage-vulnerable points, secondary waste collection centres, roads, markets, lanes and other public places. Officials were also directed to ensure that sanitation-related complaints are resolved promptly.Officials briefed Dahiya on the sanitation situation in different parts of the city. Field teams were asked to intensify cleaning and ensure regular lifting of garbage from identified collection points.The directions came a day after TOI reported that 100 sanitation-related complaints remained pending on the MCG’s social media complaints dashboard on Monday, despite sanitation workers resuming duty on Sunday. Another 74 complaints related to engineering works, including roads and sewerage, and seven concerning construction and demolition (C&D) waste were also pending. The total backlog across the three categories stood at 181.Dahiya directed officials to ensure that sanitation-related complaints received through different channels were addressed promptly. “Once a complaint is received, the concerned team should be sent to the spot promptly and necessary action taken,” he said. Officials were also asked to strengthen field-level monitoring.With the festive season approaching, the civic body said markets, major roads, lanes and public places will be monitored more closely as footfall and commercial activity increase. Officials were also directed to identify and issue challans to those found dumping waste on roads, vacant plots or other public places, in accordance with applicable rules.The condition of roads was also reviewed. Engineering officials were directed to identify stretches damaged by rainfall and initiate repairs at the earliest. Dahiya said such repairs should be taken up on priority to minimise inconvenience to commuters and improve road conditions across the city.
