Dibrugarh: BVFCL Namrup marked National Engineers’ Day on Tuesday by unveiling a brass bust of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya.BVFCL CMD Mohan Raj Shetty inaugurated the bust on Visvesvaraya’s birth anniversary and highlighted his contributions to engineering, water management, infrastructure and industrialisation.“Sir M Visvesvaraya’s life represents excellence, innovation, integrity and service to the nation. These values should continue to guide engineers in meeting contemporary challenges,” Shetty said.Born on Sept 15, 1861, Visvesvaraya designed and implemented major projects, including Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore and a flood-protection system for Hyderabad. He also developed an automatic water-floodgate system, first installed at Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune in 1903.He served as Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918 and was associated with institutions including Mysore Iron and Steel Works, Mysore Soap Factory and State Bank of Mysore. The Centre awarded him Bharat Ratna in 1955.The CMD Engineers’ Award for exemplary service and innovative engineering was conferred on Amrit Bandhopadhyay, operation head.“Engineering is about finding solutions, overcoming constraints and ensuring that the nation’s assets remain productive and efficient,” Shetty said.
