Ahmedabad: Ending months of uncertainty for doctoral aspirants, Gujarat University (GU) on Monday announced the PhD admission schedule for the 2026-27 academic session. Online registration for the entrance test opens today at noon and will run through Sep 7 until 11.59pm.The entrance exam for over 700 PhD seats across nearly 70 subjects is scheduled for Sep 26, from noon to 2pm. Applicants must pay an online registration fee of Rs 1,000.Following online registration, candidates must submit physical copies of their application forms, generated via the Samarth portal, along with required certificates to their respective departments between Aug 25 and Sep 9.As per the timeline, GU will release the provisional eligibility list on Sep 11. Candidates can file objections until Sep 19, after which a revised eligibility list will be published.Under the university’s exam protocol, candidates must hand back both their OMR answer sheets and question booklets to the invigilators upon completing the test, and will not be allowed to take any exam material outside the hall.The announcement brings relief to hundreds of aspirants, though the university remains significantly behind schedule. While most state universities have already wrapped up their PhD entrance tests, GU’s admission cycle will stretch well into late autumn, with the final counselling process expected to begin nearly six weeks after the exam.
