Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday registered a case of alleged misuse of power and financial irregularities against a former sarpanch and a talati-cum-minister of Dhamatvan village in Daskroi taluka. The FIR was lodged by an ACB police inspector of Ahmedabad rural unit. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in expenditure from the gram panchayat’s own funds during financial years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25.According to the complaint, expenses incurred under various heads, including soil filling, water supply, festival celebrations and salaries, were carried out without required resolutions or technical approvals. Investigators also found that no proper records were maintained for these expenditures. The probe further revealed that salaries of panchayat employees were not transferred to their bank accounts. Instead, payments were made through bearer cheques issued in the name of the village computer operator. The ACB alleged that both officials, acting in collusion, misused their positions and caused a loss of ₹1.55 crore to the govt by diverting funds for personal use and accumulating assets.
