Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) retained electricity tariff rates for FY 2026-27, offering relief to consumers, in a bid to promote smarter, more efficient power use. The revised tariffs, approved after truing up FY 2024-25 accounts and determining the Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR), will come into effect from April 1.While there is no change in base tariff rates for consumers of Torrent Power and state-owned discoms in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Surat, the commission has introduced a series of measures aimed at influencing consumption patterns. The rebate on prepaid smart meters has been increased from 2% to 3%. In a notable shift, Time-of-Use (ToU) discounts have been extended to postpaid smart meter consumers as well, across categories including residential, commercial and EV charging segments, removing the earlier restriction to prepaid users. The duration of the ToU discount window has also been expanded from four hours to six hours, now covering 11am to 5pm, a move aligned with the availability of cheaper solar power during daytime. The commission has also widened the applicability of these discounts to include all waterworks connections, easing earlier load-related conditions. For Torrent Power consumers, the regulator has replaced the existing night-time concession with a ‘solar hours rebate’, offering a benefit of 30 paise per unit for electricity consumption between 11 am and 3 pm, reflecting a clear shift towards incentivising daytime demand. Further, ToU charge time slots have been revised for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat, with peak pricing now applicable from 6am to 8am and from 5pm to 11pm. The additional tariff for opting for green power has also been reduced from Re 0.90 to Re 0.75 per unit.
