Ahmedabad: The routine of a bakery on CG Road was abruptly interrupted on Thursday after a local customer allegedly made disturbing discovery: insects on nankhatai. This unsettling find prompted a complaint to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Health department officials conducted a check and identified several hygiene violations, leading them to issue a formal notice and impose a penalty of Rs 25,000 on the establishment.Samples of nankhatai, coconut macaroon, and almond coconut biscuits from Beekay Bakers were collected and sent to a food laboratory for testing. This specific action coincided with a broader citywide enforcement drive conducted from March 23 to March 26. Over these four days, the AMC health department inspected 229 food units across various neighbourhoods in Ahmedabad. These efforts resulted in 85 notices being issued and the destruction of 144 kilogrammes of inedible food along with 138 litres of unfit liquids. Additionally, 127 different food samples were gathered from these units to undergo further laboratory analysis.
