Ahmedabad: The Gujarat education department has announced financial assistance of Rs 2,000 for students who successfully complete their internships. The stipend applies to those enrolled in govt and grant-in-aid arts, commerce, and science colleges affiliated with state universities.
Under the New Education Policy (NEP), students in Semester 6 of undergraduate programmes are required to complete a 20-day internship, carrying four academic credits. To ease the financial burden on students, especially those from middle-income backgrounds, the state has introduced this support under the “Kaushalya Sahay Yojana” for the academic year 2026–27.
Officials stated that students often incur travel and food expenses while undertaking internships at different locations. The financial aid aims to ensure that no student skips this mandatory training due to economic constraints. Govt has allocated Rs 42.5]1 crore for the scheme, which is expected to benefit over 2 lakh students annually.
To avail the benefit, students must submit internship details on their college portal, which will be verified by faculty members and approved by the principal. The amount will then be directly transferred to the student’s bank account through a centralised digital system developed by KCG.
