Ahmedabad: In many households, sibling spats are part of the background noise, but for one woman from the city, the friction between her daughters, aged 18 and 22, escalated into a full-scale domestic cold war. The situation became so “uncontrollable” that the exasperated woman was forced to seek a diplomatic resolution through the Abhayam 181 helpline. The sisters didn’t just bicker; they reportedly engaged in public shouting matches, damaged each other’s belongings, and even maintained separate water sources and food supplies within the same home. The rivalry was so deep-seated that they refused to attend social functions together, splitting the parents between them.“It stemmed from a series of spats about the parents paying more attention to one of the daughters. Recently, they fought fiercely in their residential society. The mother, worried that the neighbours might call the police, decided to stage an intervention by calling Abhayam,” said a 181 counsellor. Following intensive sessions, both the sisters and the parents were counselled to address the root causes of the friction. The family has since promised to “call a truce”.
