Gandhinagar: Speaking at the annual convention of the state unit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), chief minister Bhupendra Patel said on Friday that Gujarat was gearing up to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030. He assured industry stakeholders of all necessary support to achieve this target.The CM said that despite having only 5% of the country’s population, Gujarat contributes 8% to India’s GDP, with the aim to take this beyond 10%. “Gujarat is gearing up to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030. To achieve this target, the state govt is committed to providing all necessary support to industries,” Patel said at the event.Highlighting the state’s contribution to manufacturing, Patel said Gujarat accounts for 17% of the country’s total manufacturing output and about 33% of national exports. “The state’s MSME sector has grown significantly, from 1.85 lakh units in 2001–02 to 27.9 lakh at present. Gujarat also handles 40% of the country’s total cargo. Its sector-wise share includes 33% in chemicals, 19.2% in pharmaceutical exports, and 80% in diamond exports,” he said.Patel added that while the state has been a strong manufacturing hub for decades, advanced industries such as semiconductors have also begun investing in Gujarat.
