Coimbatore: A 23-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, for murdering his co-worker at a construction site near TVS Nagar in the city on Monday night.The arrested has been identified as R Gunasekaran, of Aruppukottai. Police said K Venkatesan, 43, from Bengaluru and the accused were employed as construction labourers in the city for the last one year. They were working together and residing at the construction site near Kavundampalayam in the city.On Monday night, the duo consumed alcohol together, during which a verbal altercation broke out between them. It escalated into a physical fight and Gunasekaran assaulted Venkatesan and pushed him down. Another labourer who witnessed the informed the contractor, Balaji, about the tussle. Balaji warned Gunasekaran and sent him off after which the duo went to bed. “However, Venkatesan was found dead in a pool of blood on Tuesday morning. Investigation revealed that he had suffered a head injury in the brawl which took place the previous night,” said a police officer.Balaji lodged a complaint with the Kavundampalayam police after which they recovered the body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem. Meanwhile, police have arrested Gunasekaran and are investigating further.
