The project will be developed by NHAI

Noida: Greater Noida will get a double-decker flyover in Shahberi by 2028. Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has decided to replace its proposed single elevated road in Shahberi with a double-decker flyover.Once completed, it will be the city’s first double-decker flyover, which will connect Eteda roundabout in Greater Noida west to Crossings Republik via Shahberi. The project will be developed in two years. The 2.5-km project is now estimated to cost around Rs 900 crore, more than double the earlier estimate of Rs 400 crore. The project cost will be shared by Greater Noida Authority and Ghaziabad Development Authority.Senior manager with Greater Noida Authority Prabhat Shankar told TOI, “The project will be developed by NHAI as it will connect with the Delhi-Meerut Expressway on one side.” A detailed project report will be prepared shortly.A feasibility study found that the available road width is insufficient for a conventional four-lane elevated structure. This change was recently discussed with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Greater Noida Authority and the consultant. The Authority earlier proposed a four-lane elevated road, with two lanes in each direction. However, the plan required a minimum road width of 15 metres, while the existing road through Shahberi is only 14 metres wide, making the original design unfeasible.Under the revised proposal, the flyover will have two decks. One deck will carry traffic from Greater Noida towards Crossings Republik, while the other will cater to vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. Officials said the double-decker three-lane structure can be constructed within a 12-metre-wide corridor. The U-shaped pillars will support the elevated structure while allowing traffic to continue on the existing road below, minimising disruption during and after construction.Greater Noida West and Crossings Republik are adjoining residential townships located along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and have emerged as major affordable housing hubs over the past decade. Despite their proximity, inadequate road infrastructure has resulted in frequent bottlenecks and long queues of vehicles. The flyover is expected to provide major relief to commuters travelling between Greater Noida West, Shahberi and Crossings Republik. The stretch witnesses severe congestion during peak hours as thousands of officegoers travel daily to Noida, Delhi and Ghaziabad on this road. School buses, goods vehicles and autorickshaws also use the corridor extensively, further adding to traffic pressure. The area is also prone to waterlogging during the monsoon, worsening traffic snarls and increasing travel time.In May last year, the Shahberi-Crossings Republik road reopened after widening and redevelopment following a nearly two-month closure. However, widening alone has not been sufficient to address the growing traffic volume, prompting the decision to construct the double-decker flyover.
