Kolkata: A team from the state govt’s Commission on Institutional Corruption on Saturday searched the residences of former Trinamool councillors Jiban Saha and Alokananda Das over alleged disproportionate assets. The searches came two days after the commission, headed by retired Justice Biswajit Basu, inspected former mayor and minister Firhad Hakim’s business units on Tollygunge Circular Road.Officials examined records of movable and immovable assets to verify whether the properties were acquired with illicit funds. Das, who also faces illegal construction allegations, had four properties searched, including two flats on Chaul Patty Road. Saha was councillor of ward 57, while Das represented ward 34.Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, “We too want zero tolerance against corruption. But the anti-corruption drives have to go beyond public statements and grandstanding. If Firhad Hakim or Alokananda Das has done anything wrong, let there be FIRs and arrests. Or, because they are now in the rebel camp, they will be spared of those.”Saha’s phone was switched off, while Das did not answer calls. In July, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari announced a judicial commission to probe institutional corruption during the previous TMC govt between 2011 and 2026.
