Jaipur: To make science education practical and experimental, the education department is encouraging schools to set up science clubs in 5,000 govt schools.
In these clubs, students will be taught science through STEM activities, practical workshops, and live projects. Priority is being given to Swami Vivekananda Model Schools and PM SHRI schools. Until now, over 1,100 science clubs have been registered with department of science and technology.
The education department on Sept 18 instructed all district education officers to start a statewide campaign to register science clubs in the maximum number of schools and to encourage these schools to regularly organise activities related to science, technology, and ‘learning by doing’. The science clubs will also provide training in tasks such as creating models, conducting various experiments, and building rockets.
Officials said that specifically those schools equipped with science laboratories and where science is taught as an elective subject must be encouraged to set up science clubs. The objective is to foster scientific thinking among students and offer them opportunities to prepare for research activities and science competitions.
“This initiative has been started to enable talented students from rural and remote areas to learn using modern scientific equipment and prepare for state- and national-level science competitions. Students will be encouraged to identify problems in their areas, whether it is related to streetlights, commute, roads or any other issue and develop solutions for the same,” said a senior official.
Chief district education officers who also serve as the district project coordinators for Samagra Shiksha have been designated as the district-level nodal officers for this initiative.
The nodal officers have been instructed to conduct activities for students in which experienced science teachers explain scientific concepts to the children through experiments.
