Gaya: At least 2,000 Urdu translators will be appointed to promote the second official language of the state and bring it in sync with the overall functioning of govt departments from the secretariat to the block level.According to Perwez Alam, director of the state-level Urdu Directorate, the appointments will be made through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and the selected candidates will be imparted training before their deployment.The director also said that after a gap of eight years, the Jashn-e-Urdu programme is being revived and CM Nitish Kumar has accorded approval to the proposal for its revival to showcase the vibrance and beauty of the language.The director was interacting with Urdu lovers and creative people in Gaya on Tuesday evening. Alam said Urdu translators were also contributing to official functioning in different spheres and were always available for work related to disaster management and the execution of welfare schemes of the govt.Bihar is the only state in the country to have an independent directorate dedicated to the promotion of Urdu, the second official language of the state.Participants at the interactive programme included MA Kazmi, IPS (retd), Urdu poet Ainul Haq, fiction writer Syed Ahmed Quadri and Urdu critic Asad Zahir.The director also sought public cooperation in promoting Urdu in the state. MA Kazmi favoured Urdu translation of quality material available in different languages.
