Patna: Minister for backward classes and extremely backward classes (BC and EBC) welfare department minister Rama Nishad on Wednesday said her department has sent a requisition to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to fill 927 teacher posts in Plus 2 girls’ residential schools across the state. The appointments will be made through the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE)-4.Addressing a press meet in Patna, Nishad said Plus 2 girls’ residential schools are currently operational only at the district level. The state government has now decided to expand the residential school network to the sub-divisional level for both girls and boys.The govt is planning to establish 520-bed Plus 2 girls’ residential schools and 720-bed boys’ residential schools in all 101 sub-divisions of Bihar, she said. At present, only 39 Plus 2 girls’ residential schools are functional in the state. Asked when the proposed schools would become operational, Nishad said the process was underway and some of them were likely to start functioning during the current academic session.The minister also said her department is working on a proposal to open 10 Sainik Schools for students belonging to backward classes.Highlighting the shortage of hostels for BC and EBC students, Nishad said the department has initiated the process of constructing 100-bed Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur hostels for girls at the district and sub-divisional levels, and for boys at the divisional level.She said 100-bed Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur hostels for both boys and girls have been functional in all 38 districts since 2008-09. These hostels have a combined capacity of 3,800 seats, against which 2,962 students are currently enrolled.Nishad said she has requested both the Centre and the state government to provide laptops worth up to Rs 50,000 to girl students preparing for police and fire services, pursuing Intermediate studies, or enrolled in technical courses, to help them become self-reliant.She added that the department is also preparing the Mukhya Mantri Pichhra Varg Evam Ati Pichhra Varg Abhyuday Yojana, under which eligible students will receive grants and training for CLAT, NIFT and higher studies abroad.
