Buxar: A 22-year-old woman from Varanasi and her three-year-old daughter died after being hit by a train while walking along railway tracks near Dumraon in Buxar district on Tuesday, police said. The accident occurred on the down line between Dumraon and Twining Ganj stations, near V V Giri Halt.According to officials sources, the woman, identified as Gorakh Devi, wife of Chhotu Bind and a resident of Manduadih in Varanasi, had arrived at Dumraon railway station by train. She was walking along the tracks towards her sister’s house in Noniyapura village near Twining Ganj station, accompanied by her three-year-old daughter Lado and her 12-year-old niece.As they were proceeding along the railway line, a train approached from behind. While the niece managed to run into nearby fields and escape, Gorakh Devi and her daughter were hit by the train and they died on the spot.The surviving niece, Radhika Kumari, daughter of Goriya Prasad of Noniyapura, told police that they were heading home on foot along the tracks when they suddenly heard the train’s horn from behind. Despite their attempt to move away, her aunt and cousin were hit. She said she had been living with her maternal aunt in Varanasi since childhood.GRP, RPF and local police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. As the accident site falls under the jurisdiction of Krishna Brahm police station, the local police took custody of the bodies and sent them for the postmortem, said Manichandra Pandey SHO of GRP, Buxar.
