Bhubaneswar: The state govthas regularised contractual schematic junior teachers appointed in 2023-24, announced chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday. This has benefited more than 13,000 contractual junior teachers in the state, said an official statement issued by the chief minister’s office here.Official sources said these teachers have been regularised from the time they joined their jobs. However, they will receive notional benefits from the time of joining until Dec 31, 2025. From Jan 1, 2026, they will receive regular employee salaries and all other benefits. Earlier, he had announced regularisation of these junior teachers.This decision has brought joy to the teachers. Odisha Junior Teachers (Schematic) Association convenor Shesadev Yajnakam Deo expressed his happiness over the govt’s decision. On June 6, 2025, thousands of contractual/schematic junior teachers from various govt-run and govt-aided schools staged a dharna near the state legislative assembly, demanding the regularisation of their jobs.Though state govt has already abolished the contractual system in govt jobs, the schematic junior teachers continued to work on a contractual basis for the first six years of their employment. BJP-led state govt increased the monthly salary from Rs 11,100 to Rs 16,100, but it had not abolished the contractual system. “Now they are regularised. Govt will recruit the schematic teachers as regular teachers from the day of their appointment,” said Rajesh Mohanty, president of All Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association.Mohanty, while welcoming the decision of the chief minister, said it will solve a long-pending demand of schematic junior teachers working on a contractual basis.
