Patna: In a statewide drive to safeguard govt school property, the Bihar education department will prepare district-wise land registers documenting all land owned by govt schools and crack down on encroachments, education minister Mithilesh Tiwari said on Thursday.Tiwari further said land registers would be prepared in every district and maintained at the offices of district education officers (DEOs). The records will include details such as the area of land, khata-khesra numbers, available revenue records and the current status of the property, he added.Chairing a review meeting, Tiwari said govt school land is public property and safeguarding it is the responsibility of the education department. He asked officials to prepare complete records of school land and other assets in their respective districts.The proposed land registers will include details such as the name of the school, area of land, khata-khesra numbers, available revenue records and the present status of the land. Officials have also been directed to verify and organise all existing documents related to school land.According to the department, the exercise aims to prevent future disputes, keep land records updated and strengthen protection of school property. Tiwari also instructed officials to establish a mechanism for regular monitoring of school land and said encroachment on educational institutions’ property would not be tolerated.He directed officials to coordinate with the concerned departments and take action as per rules wherever encroachments are detected. The minister said the database would help identify and protect government school land across Bihar and facilitate planning for its future use.
