Patna: The Bihar Regiment Centre (BRC) on Thursday marked the 26th Raising Day of the 154th Infantry Battalion at the BRC ground in Danapur cantonment, honouring the unit’s distinguished service and the sacrifices of its soldiers.Raised on Sept 10, 2001, in Bengaluru under the command of Colonel R S Kadian, the battalion has participated in several key operations in both peace and wartime and earned a reputation for professionalism and courage.BRC commandant Brigadier Rakesh Kumar Bora said the battalion played a significant role in Operation Parakram in Jammu & Kashmir in 2003, where its personnel displayed exemplary courage, dedication and valour in the line of duty. Popularly known as the “Island Terriers”, the battalion also contributed to humanitarian efforts during Operation Madad, undertaken for tsunami relief in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.As part of the Raising Day celebrations, Brig Bora laid a wreath at the Veer Smriti Sthal and paid homage to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.Colonel Ankit Yadav, Lt Colonel A K Mishra, Subedar Major Prakash Chandra, junior commissioned officers (JCOs) and a large number of serving personnel participated in the tribute ceremony and remembered the valour and dedication of the fallen heroes, a BRC official said.The Army band added to the spirit of the occasion by playing patriotic tunes, including Vande Mataram, as personnel paid tributes to the gallant soldiers and celebrated the legacy of the 154th Infantry Battalion.
