Mangaluru: The state govt will consider setting up a senior citizens’ organisation in every town to bring together the elderly, health and family welfare minister UT Khader said Sunday.He said efforts would be made to implement the project on a pilot basis in Mangaluru city.Khader was speaking after felicitating achievers at the ‘Dhanyatha’ Senior Citizens’ Day celebration at Prerana Hall in the Red Cross Centenary Building. The programme was organised by the Indian Red Cross Society Dakshina Kannada District Unit, Rotary International District 3182, District Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Manthana Ojas Trust and the District Working Journalists’ Association.“A better society has been built today because of the sacrifice, patience, and commitment of our elders. The great responsibility of handing this over to the next generation rests with us. The younger generation should draw inspiration from the experiences and ideals of the elders,” the minister said.Rotary District 3181 Governor Sathish Bolar inaugurated the programme. District Red Cross Society chairman CA Shantharam Shetty presided.District Ex-Servicemen’s Association vice-president Col AK Jayachandran, Manthana Ojas Trust president Mangala Nandakumar, Working Journalists’ Association president Pushparaj BN, and Rotary Sandhya Suraksha Yojana chairman Anil Rao were present.A free medical check-up camp, in collaboration with Yenepoya Ayurvedic Medical College, and a free dental check-up camp, in collaboration with Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, were also organised for senior citizens.
