Patna: In a significant administrative reform, the state govt has decided to abolish the Bihar Vigilance Investigation cadre. The officers serving in this cadre will now be integrated into the mainstream Bihar Police under the home department.According to a recent official order, deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), police inspectors and sub-inspectors from the vigilance cadre will be adjusted into equivalent positions in the Bihar Police. This move was taken in accordance with the provisions of the Bihar Police Act, 2007, with the aim of bringing uniformity in the police structure across the state.The govt has directed that DSPs from the vigilance investigation cadre will be absorbed into the Bihar Police service with effect from the date of their first appointment. Similarly, police inspectors and sub-inspectors, particularly those from the 2014 and 2023 batches, will be inducted into equivalent ranks in the Bihar Police.There would be no service break of these officers. Their past appointments, length of service and experience will not be affected by this restructuring. However, for determining seniority, they will be placed immediately after the last officer of their respective batch in the Bihar Police. This means they will rank below the officers already included in the recommendation lists of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) or the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission.The state govt believes that merging the separate cadre will promote better coordination between vigilance and regular policing functions while simplifying administrative processes. The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting held on May 5.
