Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh School Education Department has directed around 80,000 govt school teachers handling Classes VI to VIII to complete an online course on artificial intelligence (AI) by the end of Oct, according to proceedings issued by the director of school education.
The proceedings, Rc.No. ESE02-11/351/2026-SCERT, outline an AI Foundations and Literacy programme integrating the AI Samarth course with selected Bodhan AI learning resources. The initiative aims to equip teachers with foundational AI knowledge and practical skills for classroom planning, student assessment and learning support.
The course covers basic AI concepts, machine learning, data literacy, the ethical and responsible use of AI, privacy and security, and prompting techniques. The selected Bodhan AI resources focus on lesson planning, differentiated learning materials, diagnostic assessment, feedback and student support.
Teachers have been instructed to access the course through the LEAP application. They must update the app, log in using their registered credentials, select Governance, then Commissioner of School Education (CSE), and open AI Samarth.
The department has made it clear that merely enrolling in or accessing the course will not count as completion. Teachers must finish the prescribed learning components and associated assessment, ensure their completion status is recorded in the system and obtain their completion certificate through the app.
The proceedings also provide for three live online hands-on training sessions to familiarise teachers with AI tools, prompting, lesson planning and assessment applications.
Progress will be monitored weekly during Oct at the department, district and mandal levels. Officials will track enrolment, course access, completion, assessment and certificate status.
The director of school education has directed regional joint directors, district educational officers and Samagra Shiksha officials to ensure implementation, describing the matter as “most urgent” and asking them to achieve the target by Oct-end.
