Prayagraj: State govt has given financial clearance for the construction of two flyovers in the Sangam City aimed at easing traffic congestion at two of the city’s busy junctions. While both will cover MG Road of the posh Civil Lines area, these will stretch from Medical College crossing to Hanuman temple and further to bus stand crossing in Civil Lines.Govt is expected to release the funds within a week, paving the way for the next stage of construction. The two projects will involve an estimated expenditure of Rs 275 crore. The proposed flyover at Medical College crossing will cost around Rs 135 crore, while the one near Hanuman Mandir and the bus stand crossing in Civil Lines has been estimated at Rs 140 crore. Both flyovers are expected to be between 1,000m and 1,200m long.Rohit Mishra, project manager of Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation, said a meeting of the expenditure finance committee was held in Lucknow on Thursday, during which the financial clearance was granted. The projects are now awaiting the release of funds. He said further procedures related to construction would be expedited once the budget was released.Medical College crossing and Hanuman Mandir-bus stand junction in Civil Lines are among the city’s busy traffic points, witnessing a high volume of vehicles throughout the day. Traffic congestion frequently develops at these locations, affecting commuters travelling along major roads and those passing through the central parts of the city. The proposed flyovers are expected to help separate through traffic from vehicles negotiating the busy junctions, thereby improving traffic flow and reducing delays. The projects are also likely to benefit commuters using the main roads connecting important parts of the city.
