Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is gearing up to take care of the city’s water needs until the year 2050. The civic body prepared a proposal for this and sent it to the urban development department, which accepted it recently.The civic body plans to augment existing resources and develop new ones to ensure that the city’s needs until 2050 are covered. VMC aims to undertake these works by the year 2030.The present sources for water supply in the city provide 750 MLD of water. The major sources of water for the city include Narmada canals, the Mahi River, and the Ajwa Reservoir. VMC plans to increase this capacity to 1,495 MLD under the plan shared with the state govt.To increase the water supply, VMC has planned two new water treatment plants (WTP) at Nimeta and a water treatment plant at Poicha for the east zone. The additional sources for the west zone include WTPs at Dodka, Sindhrot, and Khapur.The north zone will receive more water courtesy of WTPs at Angadh and Rayka. For the south zone of the city, VMC plans to have a WTP at Kapurai.
