Chikkamagaluru: Former speaker KR Ramesh Kumar said the life of former education minister HG Govindegowda should be a guiding light for politicians and called upon the public to voice concern against those sowing discord among people.Speaking at the birth centenary celebration and endowment lecture programme of ‘Malenada Gandhi’ HG Govindegowda, organised by Kannada Sahitya Parishat taluk unit in Koppa, Ramesh Kumar said when values decline, a person like Govindegowda appears like a rare treasure.Recalling his tenure as assembly speaker, he said, “When I was the speaker, Govindegowda used to come to the session without any delay and used to reply to the members’ questions spontaneously, without preparing notes. He used to answer with commitment.” Govindegowda is not just his family asset; he is the asset of the state and the country. “Politics is not a livelihood. Every human must have self-respect. Issues which have no relevance to people’s lives are given more importance. Being corrupt itself has become a qualification.A person who declares assets with lakhs in one election will become a crorepati by the next election, and there is no one to question it,” he lamented. Kannada Sahitya Parishat taluk unit president JM Sriharsha, parishat life member Sudhir Kumar Muroli and district unit president Suri Srinivas were present.
