Dibrugarh: Members of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union and Gorkha Mahila Parishad protested in Duliajan Town on Tuesday, demanding justice for Aman Sonar, an 18-year-old who died at the Naoholia de-addiction-cum-rehabilitation centre in Duliajan on June 18.The demonstrators also called for the immediate arrest of Santosh Limbu, the centre’s owner, who is absconding since the incident. The district administration had sealed the rehabilitation centre following the incident. The protesters raised slogans and marched through Duliajan Town, pressing authorities to expedite the arrest of Limbu, who is considered the prime accused in the case.Aman, son of Raju Sonar, was a resident of Baruah Tiniali No 15 under Zaloni Grant in Duliajan. He had been admitted to the Naoholia centre for treatment. His body was recovered on June 18 with multiple injury marks, following which allegations surfaced that Limbu and staff members had assaulted the inmate, leading to his death.Three persons — Hemant Sharma, Lal Bahadur Magar and Shiv Thapa — have since been arrested in connection with the case after being apprehended in separate police raids. However, Limbu continues to evade arrest, with police conducting search operations to trace him.“It has been days since Aman was beaten to death inside that centre, and the main culprit, Limbu, is still roaming free. This is unacceptable. We urge the police to arrest him immediately. We will not rest until he is behind bars,” said an office bearer of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union. The organisations have previously submitted a memorandum to Dibrugarh SSP, demanding swift action.
