LUCKNOW: A 19-year-old BSc first-year student was allegedly stabbed to death while he was sleeping in the verandah outside his house in Jayantipur village under the Bansgaon police station area of Gorakhpur early Thursday morning.The deceased, identified as Shubham Mishra, was reportedly attacked around 5 am. According to the information available, an unidentified assailant attacked him with a knife while he was asleep, striking him on the head.Shubham sustained serious injuries and later died.At the time of the incident, Shubham was reportedly alone at home as his parents and other family members had travelled to Lucknow for his father’s treatment.His father, Swadesh Mishra, who is engaged in farming, has been suffering from a kidney-related illness for the past four to five years, and the family had gone to Lucknow in connection with his treatment and a possible kidney transplant.
Student was sleeping in verandah
Shubham, the youngest of three siblings, had gone to sleep in the verandah outside the house after having dinner on Wednesday night.In the early hours of Thursday, the unidentified attacker allegedly reached the house and stabbed him while he was sleeping.After the incident came to light, relatives and villagers rushed to the spot and took the injured student to a nearby Primary Health Centre (PHC) by ambulance.Doctors declared him dead on arrival.The incident triggered panic and mourning in the village, with relatives and local residents gathering at the house after learning about the killing.
Mother repeatedly faints after hearing of son’s death
Shubham’s mother, Sudha Mishra, was in Lucknow with other family members when she was informed about her son’s death. According to relatives, she repeatedly fainted after receiving the news and pleaded to be taken to her son.The family subsequently left Lucknow for Gorakhpur.
Police, forensic team begin probe
Following information about the killing, CO Khajni Anuj Singh and a forensic team reached the spot and examined the scene. The forensic team collected evidence from the crime scene as part of the investigation.Shubham’s body was kept outside the house pending the arrival of his family members. Police said the body would be sent for post-mortem examination after the relatives reached the village.The motive behind the killing and the identity of the attacker have not yet been established. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the murder and searching for the unidentified assailant.Investigators are also expected to examine the circumstances in which the attacker entered the premises and the events preceding the assault.Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
