Jalandhar: Police have registered a case against the owner of a wheat godown following a complaint from the district food and civil supplies department, Jalandhar, regarding obstruction in access to Punjab govt central pool wheat (49,672 jute bags, approximately 24,836 quintals). The case was registered on Feb 27 against JS Farm, Sarmastpur, owner Upkar Singh Hothi.In a statement on Sunday evening, hours after Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira posted pictures of Hothi with AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and chief minister Bhagwant Mann, Jalandhar police said that on Feb 17, food and supply officer Manish Kumar and his team were denied entry to inspect the godown. “The farm owner, Upkar Singh Hothi, allegedly refused access and also removed security personnel deployed for safeguarding govt wheat, creating serious concerns regarding its safety and lifting operations,” police said.
After obtaining legal opinion, an FIR under sections 316(2), 314, 221 and 351(2) BNS was registered at Maqsudan police station. Jalandhar police said raids were being carried out to arrest the accused at the earliest.
