Panaji: Other than the 25 water bodies notified as wetlands at present, the Goa State Wetland Authority is in the process of issuing the final notification for 10 other bodies as wetlands.These new wetlands include six in Benaulim — Dhakte lake, Vodle lake, Ita lake, Adsule lake, Manali lake, and Kamala lake.The other four are Orlim lake in Orlim, Dhulpe lake in Shiroda, Ambulor lake in Verna, and Lagoa de Cima in Chandor.Officials said for these 10 lakes the process of validation of areas and physical delineation with high resolution maps is presently on by a specialised agency.A technical committee will then approve it before the notification is issued for public objections and suggestions. Only after this the water bodies will qualify to be awarded wetland status.Of the water bodies to be notified as wetlands, Lagoa de Cima in Chandor will cover the biggest area of 1.5 lakh sqm of the lake and an additional 63,000sqm area of the buffer zone.The Orlim lake is the second largest of the 10 new wetlands with an area of 64,000sqm and a buffer zone of 1.8 lakh sqm.Of the water bodies which have already acquired wetland status, the lake management committees have been formed only for Bondvol lake, Toyyar lake, Carambolim lake, Pilerne lake, and Nanda lake, officials said.
