Coimbatore: Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) president G K Vasan on Saturday said the announcement of Rs5,000 under Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam was an attempt to mislead the women voters In Tamil Nadu ahead of the assembly elections.“The govt claims there are no funds for education loan waivers and other sectors. Yet it is making announcements like this in an election atmosphere,” he said questioning the timing of Rs5,000 payout to the beneficiaries of Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam. Addressing the media after the party’s election consultation meeting with the Coimbatore zonal office-bearers here on Avinashi Road, he said DMK govt had failed to fulfil its electoral promises and its anti-people policies had offered AIADMK-led alliance a bright chance of victory. Criticizing the state govt, he said the law and order had deteriorated and that the administration had failed to effectively curb the drug menace in the state. Referring to the death of a person during a TVK campaign meeting in Salem, he said both the govt and the party that organized the event must take responsibility and ensure that adequate safety measures were implemented to prevent such incidents in future. He said applications were received from candidates seeking to contest the upcoming assembly elections on the party ticket at the meeting. “The objective of the meeting was to ensure the victory of TMC candidates in the Kongu region in the upcoming assembly elections.”
