Surat: Surat District Cricket Association (SDCA) will on Tuesday hold its one-day selection to pick players for the district Senior and Under-19 girls’ teams, the first time such district-level girls selections are being conducted, officials said. The selection trials will be held during the holiday period, but with exams underway for many students, SDCA officials said at least three more selection rounds will be conducted to ensure wider participation and to give more players opportunities to attend.According to SDCA, the selection trials will begin at 7am at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium. For the Under-19 category, the eligibility cut-off birth dates are Sep 1, 2007 to Aug 31, 2010.Interested candidates are to report in cricket whites with their kit and carry valid proof of date of birth. Coach Pragya Chaudhari will supervize the selection process.Officials said the selection round was planned after an intimation from Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), following a meeting on Saturday. Around 100 candidates are expected to take part.SDCA officials added that GCA plans to finalize its team after conducting matches between district teams. District sides from Valsad, Daman, Bharuch, Anand and others are expected to play each other as part of the selection pathway, giving players match exposure before the final squad is chosen.“SDCA will give an opportunity to all eligible girls and at least three more rounds will be held for selection. The matches are likely to start in May, hence we have enough time for selections,” said Dr Naimesh Desai, cricket secretary, SDCA.
