Ghaziabad: The power department has planned summer repairs and upgrades worth Rs 200 crore for FY 2026-27. The plan includes setting up of three new 33/11 kV substations at Rajendra Nagar, Lal Kuan and Raj Nagar Extension. The expenditure has been approved by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited.With summer around the corner, the district’s power demand is expected to increase by 400 MW. Last year, the demand was recorded at 1800 MW. Chief engineer of zones 1 and 3 Pawan Aggarwal said, “Once we receive the signed approval from the board of directors, we shall go ahead with the tendering process.” Aggarwal said the capacity of the existing substations at Rajendra Nagar and Lal Kuan will be ramped up with transformers of 10 MVA each. The power department will continue with ongoing infrastructure upgrades under different categories. Some of the works include capacity expansion and upgrade of existing distribution transformers and installing new transformers, strengthening of all 33 kV and 11 kV lines and replacing worn-out low-tension (LT) wires, substations’ modernisation, upgrading damaged vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs), enhancing 33/11 kV substation protections and overloaded feeder division.The department is chasing a March 31 deadline to complete similar repairs and maintenance works of FY 2025-26. About 60% of the repairs from last year are still pending. “We will complete the remaining works by the deadline. All tenders and work plans have been issued,” Aggarwal said.
