Chikkamagaluru: Ambedkar Jayanti in Chikkamagaluru turned tragic after a 7-year-old girl died and several others were injured as a car ran over them during a procession organised as part of the celebration on Tuesday night at Bilikallu in Chikkamagaluru taluk.Sanvi died on the spot, and another girl’s condition is serious. In all, a total of nine persons sustained injuries, police said. All the injured were shifted to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.Sudhakar, car driver, was under the influence of alcohol when he hit a tractor before running over the procession, cops said. Sudhakar also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment in Chikkamagaluru district hospital.According to locals, two persons were travelling in the vehicle. While Sudhakar was caught by the villagers, another managed to escape.Chikkamagaluru rural police, who are investigating the case, have registered a case, said a police officer.
