Chennai: A drunk man entered a 17-year-old girl’s house and attacked her with a sickle near Minjur, Tiruvallur district, on Tuesday. She suffered cuts on her right palm, elbow, forehead and the back of her head.Police, who are yet to establish motive, said 27-year-old Rolex alias Delhi Babu sneaked in through the back entrance at night, around 9.30pm, and confronted the girl who was alone on the first floor, studying. Her parents and brother were on the ground floor then. The man attacked her when she cried out for help and tried to flee, but was caught and assaulted by locals, said police.Delhi Babu, who sustained injuries, was admitted to the govt hospital in Ponneri. Police said the girl, a second-year BCom student of a private college, said only Delhi Babu had entered the house. But the mother, in her complaint, said she had heard the sound of two people entering and thought it to be a robbery attempt.Investigations revealed that Delhi Babu was booked for property damage last Oct, while under the influence of alcohol. A case has been registered under multiple sections at the Minjur police station.AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and BJP’s K Annamalai condemned the attack and called for stringent action against those involved.
