Ahmedabad: With nearly 18,000 to 19,000 undergraduate seats still vacant in Gujarat University-affiliated colleges, the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal has extended the UG admission schedule and reopened the process for fresh registrations.The vacancies remain despite four regular admission rounds and five additional vacant-seat counselling rounds conducted by Gujarat University. Of the nearly 64,000 UG seats available, 45,716 have been confirmed so far.Under the revised schedule, students can register online, correct application forms and fill college choices from July 15 to July 21. Admission offers and confirmation will take place from July 16 to 23.Students who did not confirm admission in earlier rounds, as well as those who cancelled allotted seats, can participate in the extended round.Officials said the extension aims to improve seat utilisation and give another chance to students who could not secure admission earlier.In postgraduate courses, 4,118 seats have been confirmed after the first admission round. Authorities expect the extended schedule to raise admission numbers in both UG and PG programmes.
