Gaya: District magistrate Shashank Shubhankar has directed the public health engineering department (PHED) to ensure that all open and abandoned borewells in the district are covered immediately. He instructed all the engineers of PHED to submit certificates within three days confirming that uncovered borewells in their respective jurisdictions had been safely closed.The DM initiated action following the incident at Raghunath Nagar village under Fatehpur block, where three-year-old Piyush Kumar had fallen into a 300-foot-deep borewell. However, the boy, who remained stuck at a depth of nearly 30-35 feet, was successfully rescued by the teams of NDRF and the SDRF.Show-cause notices were issued to the officials and personnel concerned in connection with the borewell into which the child had fallen. The DM also ordered lodging of an FIR against the agency and those responsible for leaving the borewell uncovered. The DM on Saturday felicitated members of NDRF and the SDRF at the collectorate by presenting them with certificates for their exemplary rescue work.
