Vadodara: A late-night shooting on the busy Waghodia Road has jolted the city, as two men on a motorcycle ambushed a garment trader, forcing his car to stop and firing at close range, leaving him seriously injured.Police said the attack took place late on Friday night when Ashish Kumar Madanlal Bakoliya, 37, a native of Delhi who runs a garment business in the city, was driving towards Waghodia.The assailants overtook his car on a motorcycle, forced him to halt, and opened fire. A bullet struck Bakoliya in the shoulder, after which the attackers fled.The gunshot drew residents and passersby to the spot. They found the trader bleeding inside his vehicle and rushed him to SSG Hospital. Doctors later shifted him to a private hospital for specialized treatment.Senior police officers along with Forensic Science Laboratory teams, reached the spot and began collecting evidence.Deputy superintendent of police P N Patil said investigators are examining CCTV footage to trace the accused.“The motorcycle seems to have overtaken the car and the victim was shot from close range. Search operations are underway based on CCTV footage and technical evidence. It appears to be a planned attack, but the motive will become clearer after the victim records his statement,” Patil said.Teams from the special operations group, local crime branch and Vadodara city police have joined the investigation, police said.
