Hubballi: Empty sites along Karwar road in Hubballi reportedly turned into garbage dumping ground, garbage being dumped freely for the past two to three months. The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has not take any strict action against those responsible for dumping the garbage, point out residents.According to a source, the waste dumped near Rajanala and Bharat Mill Circle on Karwar road fell under HDMC Ward No. 56 and HDMC zonal-9. The area lay in the heart of the city, and connects major roads including the Siddharudha Mutt, Dargha, old Hubballi and NH-4 road. Residential areas, commercial establishments and Congress party office are also located close by.

The HDMC launched many drives to clean the empty sites, but neglected this road. Satish Mundewadi, a resident of Arvind Nagar, said that the empty sites on this road were in bad shape. “The waste was dumped in the evening, and early morning. The corporation should take strict action and impose fines on those found throwing garbage,” he urged.Mohan Hiremani, a former HDMC corporator, said residents in surrounding areas were throwing the waste. “Large amounts of construction waste, including bricks, mud and mixed waste, were also thrown. The HDMC should take action against the perpetrators. I raised complaints many times but it did not yield any results. The HDMC should lift the waste soon,” he urged.Santosh Yarangalli, executive engineer, HDMC’s solid waste management department, assured that the garbage on Karwar road would be cleared at the earliest.
