Times News NetworkKanpur: The water level of the Ganga in Kanpur started rising again on Monday, with the Shuklaganj gauge recording 111 metres at 10 am, which was two metres below the warning mark of 113 metres.A rise of 20 centimetres in the water level was recorded in the last 24 hours. The district administration issued an alert for villages along the Ganga, and water police were deployed at the ghats. A ban was also imposed on boat operations in Ganga Barrage.In view of the rising water level in the Ganga, the district administration remained on alert mode. Deployment of water police at Ganga Barrage and along the riverbank was increased, while instructions were issued to stop boat operations as a safety measure.At 8 am on Monday morning, 1,06,981 cusecs of water was discharged ahead from Ganga Barrage. Meanwhile, 53,211 cusecs from Narora and 66,226 cusecs from Haridwar reached the Ganga. According to the irrigation department, in the last 24 hours, nearly the same quantity of water that entered the Ganga was released ahead, due to which the rise in the water level remained controlled for now.On Sunday evening, the gauge of 30 gates of Ganga Barrage was also increased so that the rising water flow could be managed better.
