Ganderbal, July 13: Residents of Cherwan-A in Ganderbal’s Kangan area have urged MLA Mian Mehar Ali and the Block Development Officer (BDO) Kangan to develop an open space near the Government High School into a public park and tourist attraction, besides improving the area’s drainage system.

Locals said the site, situated close to the River Sindh, possesses immense natural beauty and has the potential to emerge as a popular Public Park and recreational spot if developed with proper infrastructure. They said the area could attract both local visitors and tourists, besides providing a much-needed leisure space for the community.

Residents, however, said the absence of basic facilities and the poor drainage system have left the area neglected. They alleged that during rainfall, water accumulates in the open space due to the damaged drainage network before flowing into the Sindh Nallah, making the site unsuitable for public use.

“The location has great potential because it is situated near the River Sindh and close to the High School. If developed with landscaping, walkways, seating arrangements, lighting and other amenities, it can become a beautiful spot as well as a recreational space for local residents,” several locals said.

The residents urged MLA Mian Mehar Ali and the BDO Kangan to take up the development of the site on priority and construct a proper drainage system to prevent waterlogging and improve sanitation in the area.

They expressed hope that timely intervention by the authorities would not only enhance the beauty of Cherwan-A but also promote tourism and provide a safe and attractive public space for residents and visitors alike.
