Nagpur: After months of electrical restoration, Futala Musical Fountain is set to regain its mechanical heart, with specialised pump components from Paris having arrived in Nagpur on Saturday. Two European experts, Basile de Schrynmakers and Nicolas Poncet, have also arrived to oversee the installation and integration of the machinery needed to restore the fountain’s water effects.The consignment includes 49 Delrin monoblocks, 20 specialised motors, 34 high-pressure hoses and stainless-steel crimp clips, among other components. The parts will replace equipment that deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV radiation while the fountain remained non-operational as the matter was sub judice, officials associated with the project said.“These parts enable the fountain system to create and control its programmed water movements,” an official said.Delrin, a high-strength engineering polymer also known as polyoxymethylene (POM), is used in precision machinery because of its rigidity, wear resistance and low moisture absorption. These properties make it suitable for fountain components exposed to repeated movement and prolonged contact with water, the official said.The shipment includes nine 2DL SEW motors, six Focus SEW motors and five 3DL SEW motors, which control different movements and effects. Stainless-steel crimp clips will be used to secure the air hoses.It also contains 34 high-pressure hoses, the longest measuring up to 54 metres. The hoses will carry the pressure needed for different fountain effects and will be connected and tested before the system is commissioned.The two technical experts have begun working with the local team to inspect, install and integrate the new components with the existing machinery. Officials said their expertise would be crucial to synchronising the fountain’s mechanical, electrical and control systems.Meanwhile, the tensile fabric for the artificial banyan tree has arrived at the site and will be installed over the structure as work on the fountain’s centrepiece progresses alongside the mechanical restoration.
