Srinagar, Jul 19: Dr. Om Prakash Eye Institute, Srinagar, organised, first of its kind, Free Eye Screening Camp for senior citizens at Ahata Waqar, Chanapora.

The camp was inaugurated by renowned Opthalmologist and founder Gaash Welfare Foundation Dr Shugufta Rather. The camp marks an initiative to provide improved healthcare access to the senior citizens at their door steps. 

A dedicated team of the executive members of Ahata Waqar, Islamic Relief and Research trust IRRT, ophthalmologists and eye care professionals from Dr. Om Prakash Eye Institute coordinated to provide comprehensive eye examinations and vision screening services free of cost.

Around one hundred beneficiary senior citizens underwent detailed eye examination. Free medicines were given to the patients and senior citizens requiring further medical attention were counselled and referred for appropriate follow-up treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shugufta Rather expressed resolve to serve senior citizens and needy sections of the society.

She reiterated to continue collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening welfare and overall well-being of senior citizens by providing healthcare access at their door steps.

She said her Foundation ‘Gaash’ remains committed to improving life quality of senior citizens by holding health interventions like free eye screening camps in nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior executive member of Ahata waqar and former Director Door Darshan, Shabir Mujahid delivered welcome address and extended heartfelt gratitude to the team of eye specialists for their generous support and professional services.

He lauded the initiative of Dr Shugufta and her commitment towards the welfare of vulnerable elderly people and remarked the dedication and compassion displayed by the medical team in conducting the eye camp.

The volunteers of the Islamic Relief and Research Trust IRRT and Ahata Waqar also participated in the eye screening camp for senior citizens and lend their assistance to make the event more result oriented. 

The senior citizens observed that such collaborative initiatives significantly strengthen access to preventive healthcare while pleading for holding medical camps on regular basis for the welfare of the senior citizens.

Among those present on the occasion were Sarwar Maqbool (IRRT), media consultant Mushtaq shah Mehram, former Director Radio Kashmir Rukhsana Jabeen, executive members, Mohd Amin, Er. Khazir M Trag, Gh Qadir Bhat etc.

Earlier, the programme started with soulful recitation of Quranic verses and Naati Sharief by executive members Javed Ahmad Baigh and Qazi Ab Rashid respectively. Dr. Laila Sultan conducted proceedings.
