Vadodara: Four policemen were allegedly assaulted by a mob at Batakwada village in Mahisagar district in the early hours on Friday, on entering the village while following suspicious persons. The policemen were on night patrol in a private vehicle due to the local body elections. They saw two men on a motorcycle near a junction on the Batakwada-Fatepura road. The men were carrying something in a fertiliser bag. The duo allegedly did not stop when flagged down by the cops. The policemen grew suspicious and followed the motorcycle to Batakwada. The men left the motorcycle near a river on the outskirts of the village and went into the village. The four policemen in the car — head constables Jitendra Motibhai and Mahendrasinh Jaysinh as well as constables Dinesh Dhanabhai and Chirag Balwantsinh — then also went into the village. When they were looking for the two suspicious men, 15 to 20 men came from the village confronted them. The mob alleged that the policemen were troubling the youths of the village. The policemen were assaulted but one managed to call Santrampur police station for help. Personnel from the police station rushed to Batakwada and rescued the four policemen from the mob. An offence was registered at Santrampur police station.
