Chandrapur: Former corporator and BJP worker Ajay Vimal Sarkar, a resident of the Bengali Camp area, has been externed from Chandrapur district for a period of three months. The order was issued on Tuesday by sub-divisional magistrate of Chandrapur, Vishalkumar Meshram, citing Sarkar’s alleged involvement in multiple serious criminal cases.According to the order, Sarkar has been booked in 17 serious criminal cases since 2007 under the Ramnagar police station in Chandrapur. These include charges of murder, attempt to murder, using obscene and abusive language, and causing grievous assault. Of the 17 cases, he has been acquitted in eight, while the remaining nine are currently pending before the court.Sarkar was initially elected as an independent corporator before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, ahead of the 2026 Chandrapur municipal corporation elections, the BJP denied him a party ticket. Following the denial, he rebelled and contested the election as an independent candidate. He was defeated after voters in the Bengali Camp ward elected the BJP’s official candidate.A proposal seeking Sarkar’s externment had been prepared in June this year but was subsequently withdrawn for undisclosed reasons. Notably, the group led by MLA Kishor Jorgewar had also demanded that action be taken to extern Sarkar from the district.
