Patna: Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday said the Bihar govt would soon set up an ‘aayog’ modelled on the Union govt’s NITI Aayog to guide the state’s comprehensive and long-term development.Chairing a high-level review meeting of the planning and development department at Sankalp Sabhagar in Lok Sevak Awas, Choudhary said the proposed commission would prepare a long-term vision for Bihar, frame evidence-based policies across sectors, monitor implementation of development schemes, improve coordination among departments and offer policy suggestions as needed.He said Bihar would complete 125 years of its foundation in 2037, and the govt should use the milestone to prepare a clear concept of “Viksit Bihar” along with a long-range development roadmap. During the meeting, he reviewed the progress of schemes run by the department and issued instructions on implementation, monitoring and future planning. Planning and development minister Shree Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha also attended the meeting.Choudhary directed officials to prepare a separate budget plan for each district so that resources could be used effectively according to local needs and development priorities. He said the department’s role must go beyond drafting schemes and include effective execution, continuous evaluation and assessment of actual results.For transparency in schemes recommended by public representatives, he asked for a dedicated portal for MLAs and MLCs to manage online information, monitoring and progress updates. Under the Kabristan Gherabandi Yojana, he instructed officials to prepare a list of sensitive sites, complete the work quickly and ensure regular monitoring.

The CM said Bihar should study national and international best practices and adopt them according to the state’s requirements for inclusive, durable growth. He also called for a comprehensive action plan for all districts, including aspirational districts, based on their local needs, resources and possibilities to promote balanced development.Similar long-term, result-oriented plans should be prepared for every block, he said, adding that development must reach the last rung of the state and regional imbalances should be removed. The proposed ‘aayog’, officials said, is expected to function as a policy and monitoring institution linking planning with measurable outcomes and departmental accountability as Bihar frames its development strategy for the coming decade and beyond through coordinated governance and targeted use of public funds.
